My ceramics are meant to provide something new to see with every encounter. I look for techniques that stretch each material's most distinctive characteristics, such as a porcelain's translucence or a sandy clay's crumbliness.
Each piece starts with the construction. The final shape develops from the structure that emerges as it grows.
With my glazes I flatter the simplicity of a shape or emphasize the glaze's own drama.
My sculptural forms are built to maximize internal shadows, reflected light, and the glare of direct light. I often incorporate these sculptural approaches back into the construction of a functional form.
